make-noise/function
Function
Single-channel analog function generator in the MATHS family. Generates triggered or continuous voltage functions with VC rise and fall times, variable response curve, cycle mode for LFO use, plus End-of-Rise and End-of-Cycle gate outputs and a Hang input.687
Capabilities 5
- Envelope Generatorenvelope-generator
- Single-channel VC envelope with independent rise and fall times, variable response curve, and re-triggering capability.687
- Function Generatorfunction-generator
- Single-channel analog function generator from the MATHS family - voltage-controlled rise/fall, triggered or cycling.687
- LFOlfo
- Cycle button enables self-cycling for LFO, clock, or VCO use; rate set by Rise, Fall, and BOTH CV input.687
- Sample and Holdsample-and-hold
- Hang input freezes the output voltage when gate is high, enabling S&H and track-and-hold patching.687
- Slew Limiter / Portamentoslew-limiter
- Signal input is direct-coupled; Rise and Fall times determine slew rate for lag, portamento, and envelope following.687
Jacks 10 — 6 in / 4 out
| Name | Signal | Voltage | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inputs (6) | |||
| Both CV Input | cv | — | Bi-polar exponential CV input controlling the entire function (both rise and fall). Positive signals decrease total cycle time; negative signals increase it.687 |
| Fall CV Input | cv | — | Linear CV input for the Fall parameter. Positive voltages increase fall time; negative voltages decrease it relative to the Fall panel control setting.687 |
| Hang Input | gate | — | Gate high at this input freezes the function at its current voltage. Used for S&H, track-and-hold, stepped LFOs, and synchronized functions.687 |
| Rise CV Input | cv | — | Linear CV input for the Rise parameter. Positive voltages increase rise time; negative voltages decrease it relative to the Rise panel control setting.687 |
| Signal Input | mixed | — | Direct coupled input to the circuit. Accepts audio or CV signals for use as lag/slew processor, portamento, S&H, T&H, or ASR envelope source.687 |
| Trigger Input | gate | — | Gate or pulse input that triggers the circuit independently of the Signal Input, producing a 0V–8V envelope function shaped by Rise, Fall, and Vari-Response.687 |
| Outputs (4) | |||
| EOC Output | gate | 0V to 10V | Goes high (10V) at the end of the Cycle (falling) portion of the function. Useful as a clock or for chaining functions.687 |
| EOR Output | gate | 0V to 10V | Goes high (10V) at the end of the Rise portion of the function. Useful as a clock, pulse delay output, or for chaining multiple functions.687 |
| Inverted Signal Output | cv | 0V to 8V | Buffered inverted output of the function circuit. 0–8V when cycling; otherwise mirrors the input amplitude inverted. Capable of driving a passive 4-way mult.687 |
| Non-Inverted Signal Output | cv | 0V to 8V | Buffered non-inverted output of the function circuit. 0–8V when cycling; otherwise follows the amplitude of the signal input. Capable of driving a passive 4-way mult.687 |
Parameters 4
| Name | Type | Range | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cycle Button | button | — | When engaged, causes the circuit to self-cycle continuously, generating a repeating voltage function (LFO, clock, or VCO). The Cycle LED illuminates when active.687 |
| Fall | knob | — | Sets the time for the voltage function to ramp down. CW rotation increases fall time. Affected by the Fall CV Input and the Vari-Response curve setting.687 |
| Rise | knob | — | Sets the time for the voltage function to ramp up. CW rotation increases rise time. Affected by the Rise CV Input and the Vari-Response curve setting.687 |
| Vari-Response | knob | — | Continuously adjusts the shape of the voltage function from Logarithmic through Linear to Exponential to Hyper-Exponential. The tick mark on the panel indicates the Linear (center) setting.687 |
