Basil

Bastl Instruments

A compact, flexible digital stereo delay module built on the Bastl Pizza platform, offering clean delay and lo-fi flavors with a Space section for diffusion, feedback filtering, and multi-tap effects. Supports chorus, flanger, vibrato, pitch shifting, reverb, and stereo widening via modulation of the delay buffer.1126

Capabilities 1

Delaydelay
Stereo delay buffer with modulation, freeze, blur diffusion, feedback filter, multi-taps, and assignable CTRL for comprehensive time-based effects.1126

Jacks 8 (6 in / 2 out)

NameSignalVoltageDescription
Inputs (6)
CTRL CVcv-6V to 6VAssignable CV input. When patched, the CTRL knob acts as an attenuverter for this signal. Destination is user-assignable.1126
Assignable destinations mirrors CTRL knob

L INaudioLeft audio input. When processing mono signals, plug here and the signal is copied to the right channel.1126
R INaudioRight audio input. Normalled to the left input when nothing is plugged in.1126
SPACE CVcvCV input that controls the currently selected SPACE flavor (BLUR, FILTER, or TAPS).1126
SYNCclock-6V to 6VAnalog clock input that synchronizes delay time to clock divisions. Active only when a cable is detected.1126
V/OCTcvVolts-per-octave input that controls delay time; doubling the voltage halves the delay time. Useful for melodic or Karplus-Strong applications.1126

R OUTaudio1126

Parameters 9

NameTypeRangeBehavior
CTRL knobknobAssignable control that functions as a static offset or, when CV is patched, as an attenuverter. Destination is set via CTRL assignment mode.1126
Assignable destinations
Delay time1126 Delay stereo spread1126 Delay fine adjustment1126 Speed1126 Dry/Wet1126 Feedback1126 Freeze1126 Lo-Fi1126 Blur1126 Filter1126 Taps1126 Blur and Filter and Taps1126
DELAY buttonbuttonShort press cycles the DELAY knob between TIME and STEREO functions. Long press enters FINE adjustment mode; another short press exits.1126
DELAY knobknobMulti-function knob that sets delay TIME, STEREO spread, or FINE adjustment depending on the mode selected via the DELAY button.1126
DRY/WETfaderCrossfades between dry input and fully wet delayed signal using a constant power curve. Leftmost position is fully dry, rightmost is fully wet.1126
FEEDBACKknobRight of center introduces equal feedback on both channels; left of center creates ping-pong routing where left and right channels cross-feed. A compressor and overdrive in the feedback path keep gain under control.1126
Zones
Ping pong
Normal feedback
  • Ping pong -100–0%Left and right channels cross-feed on each feedback loop, enabling ping-pong delay and extended mono delay buffer length.1126
  • Normal feedback 0–100%Equal feedback on both left and right channels, creating standard repeating echoes.1126
FREEZE buttonbuttonActivates freeze mode, treating the delay buffer as a read-only loop while disconnecting the input. Hold for more than 2 seconds to toggle LO-FI anti-aliasing filter off.1126
SPACE buttonbuttonShort press cycles between BLUR, FILTER, and TAPS flavors. Long press enters CTRL assignment mode.1126
SPACE faderfaderControls the intensity and polarity of the currently selected SPACE flavor. Center is neutral; left and right produce different effects per flavor.1126
Zones
Blur left
Filter low-pass
Taps odd and even
Blur right
Filter high-pass
Taps even only
  • Blur left -100–0%Diffusion occurs before the feedback path, affecting initial delays as well; adds slight low-pass filtering.1126
  • Filter low-pass -100–0%Applies a low-pass filter in the feedback path, removing high frequencies for a darker sound.1126
  • Taps odd and even -100–0%Adds both odd and even division taps as additional read heads in the delay buffer.1126
  • Blur right 0–100%Diffusion occurs within the feedback path, producing lush and resonant reverb-like character.1126
  • Filter high-pass 0–100%Applies a high-pass filter in the feedback path, removing low frequencies for bright, lush delays.1126
  • Taps even only 0–100%Adds only even division taps as additional read heads in the delay buffer.1126
SPEED buttonbuttonToggles between full and half sample rates. Hold for 2 seconds to enter extended RANGE mode toggling between quarter and eighth sample rates.1126
